Xtend Barre Charlotte is proud to be the first free-standing Xtend Barre studio in the Carolinas! We are conveniently located in the Metropolitan, Midtown Charlotte, just off I-277. The studio offers an amazing view of the Uptown Charlotte skyline and direct access to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway.

Developed from a dance / Pilates background, the Xtend Barre workout combines the amazing results of dance with the principles of strength and safety of Pilates. Classes are multi-level and geared to challenge bodies of any age, gender, or fitness background. All instructors are certified in Xtend Barre and Pilates. Each instructor can offer exercises that can be modified for beginners or prenatal clients, and they can be amplified for advanced clients. We look forward to providing you a fun, unique, and challenging class.

Shawna Baker, Owner/Instructor

Shawna is an East Coast native who discovered Xtend Barre while living in San Diego, CA. When she first discovered barre workouts, she was hooked! The workouts combined her love and passion for dance, while creating an interest in overall health and fitness. Shawna has had an interest in dance since childhood, served as a choreographer for two dance teams and performed at various events in West Virginia and California. Ms. Baker took an interest into opening her own barre studio after enjoying the benefits of the barre workouts herself.

Shawna has spent much of her adult life working with the Department of Justice. After a recent job transfer, she decided to follow her dreams and open her own Xtend Barre studio. Shawna and her husband, Rodney are excited to be opening the first free-standing Xtend Barre studio in the Carolinas! We look forward to meeting you at the barre!


Caitlin Wetzel- Instructor

Caitlin is a native of Greensboro, NC. Coming from a cheerleading background, she found barre classes to be a perfect fit when she took her first class while living in Chapel Hill, NC. As a runner and lover of cardio in need of a strength routine, barre classes were a perfect addition to her active lifestyle. Caitlin is a first grade teacher and a graduate of Appalachian State University.


Rachel Taylor- Instructor

As a Ballet enthusiast and practitioner as well as a fitness devotee, Xtend Barre was a perfect match for Rachel. She has performed for Arts Evangelica Dance Company in High Point North Carolina, Ohio Dance Theatre out of Oberlin Ohio as well as some freelance jobs. Having studied ballet for 12 years and currently earning her B.A. in Dance at University of North Carolina Charlotte, Xtend Barre became a wonderful addition to her training. Rachel has taught Ballet, Pilates and aerobics and she is thrilled to find a workout that combines all styles into one powerful workout. Rachel loves to workout any chance she gets, and has a passion for sharing her love of fitness with others.


Jane Hanisch – Instructor

Dance, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle have been an essential part of Jane’s life.
After graduating high school, she became a professional ballet dancer performing in
various parts of the United States. While dancing she earned her Bachelor of Science
in Exercise Science, began modelling, and was first introduced to yoga and Pilates.
She completed her 200 hour power vinyasa yoga certification in 2011. She also
holds various certifications in personal training, health, fitness, and nutrition. She has
published articles on and has appeared on The Doctors. Upon settling
in Charlotte in 2012, Jane has enjoyed teaching and sharing her passion for a healthy


Jessica Davis – Instructor

Jessica credits her motivation and passion for healthy living to her diverse background in dance. At a young age she developed a strong interest in dance and fitness and has been professionally trained in Modern, Ballet, Afro-Caribbean and Jazz. For high school, she attended Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy where she was a dance major and with whom she choreographed and performed at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Jessica attended Western Michigan University as a dance major for one year and finished her degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. During that time she began training in Pilates and yoga and has found that the Xtend Barre work out is a fun, challenging way to incorporate dance with strength training and cardio.

Jessica has been teaching ballet and modern for over seven years and is enthusiastic about helping others achieve their fitness goals.


Danielle Crum – Instructor

Danielle Crum has had a passion for dance since early childhood. Throughout her
youth she was professionally trained in many types of dance to include Ballet, Jazz,
Tap, and Gymnastics. With a desire to share this knowledge she began teaching
dance classes during college, as well as participating in Winthrop Universities
Choreography Showcases. As an adult wanting to continue her love for dance, Xtend
Barre was a perfect match.

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out your class waiver, take a quick tour of the studio, and meet your instructor.
  • What to wear? Yoga pants, capris or leggings and an athletic top –normal gym attire.
  • What to bring? Bring or purchase grip socks to wear during class to keep you from sliding on the floor, a sweat towel, and a bottle of water to keep you hydrated.
  • What to expect?  A 55-minute high intensity workout that mixes ballet and Pilates-inspired moves with targeted-muscle sculpting, cardio and resistance training. Class is set to fun, energizing music and motivational cues from your instructor. Your instructor will set up each exercise, get you moving and circulate the room to help correct client’s form when needed, to make sure you achieve the challenge and change desired out of each class.


  • Client liability waiver form - Must be completed and agreed to prior to commencing class.
  • Grip socks are required - You may bring your own barre socks or purchase them from our studio.
  • Pre/Post-Natal and Injuries - Please inform your instructors and/or management if you are pre/post-natal or if you have any injuries or pre-existing medical conditions so that we can provide you with appropriate modifications.
  • Late Policy - Please make your best effort to arrive on time. If you are more than 5 minutes late, we cannot let you into class.
  • No Phones - Phones are not permitted to be used in the studio during class. Please silence your ringer and leave your phone with your personal belongings.
